Cast out from his orphanage and on the verge of starvation along the riverbanks of Yokohama, Atsushi Nakajima accidentally rescues eccentric detective Osamu Dazai from a suicidal river plunge. Dazai and his stern partner Doppo Kunikida belong to the Armed Detective Agency, a private organization of ability-users dealing with incidents too lethal for civilian police. Atsushi soon learns that he is the rampaging beast terrifying the region, possessing the unconscious supernatural ability "Beast Beneath the Moonlight." Welcomed into the agency, Atsushi is immediately targeted by Yokohama's ruthless underworld syndicate, the Port Mafia, commanded by Ogai Mori and spearheaded by vicious executioner Ryunosuke Akutagawa.

The territorial conflict escalates into an international crisis as foreign syndicates enter Japan. The North American organization known as The Guild, led by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, attempts to capture Atsushi to unearth the legendary "Book," an occult blank artifact capable of rewriting reality. Following The Guild's downfall, the geopolitical clash deepens when Fyodor Dostoevsky and the terrorist syndicate Decay of the Angel orchestrate a conspiracy that frames the Armed Detective Agency as global threats, unleashing the elite military unit Hunting Dogs to eliminate them. Yokohama transforms into an unforgiving chess board governed by counter-espionage, ideological dilemmas, and multi-faction battles.

What to Expect

Bungou Stray Dogs balances supernatural combat with rigorous tactical deduction. Characters command specific abilities named after prominent classic literature authors and their respective works, producing clashes decided by analytical counters rather than raw force. The narrative progresses from localized detective assignments to three-way turf wars, culminating in the complex Decay of the Angel conspiracy arc. Readers exploring the series following the anime adaptation should note that Season 5 produced by Studio BONES concludes approximately around Manga Chapter 110. To continue the canon sequence without interruption, begin reading at Chapter 111.
