Shoyo Hinata develops an obsession with volleyball after witnessing Karasuno High School's star ace, the legendary "Little Giant", dominate the court at the national tournament despite his small frame. Lacking a formal middle school boys' team, Hinata trains relentlessly in hallways and corners, finally gathering enough players to compete in an official tournament. His middle school run ends in an absolute defeat against Kitagawa Daiichi, led by the arrogant yet undeniably talented setter Tobio Kageyama, known dismissively as the "King of the Court". Vowing to surpass Kageyama, Hinata enrolls at Karasuno High School, only to discover that his bitter rival has enrolled in the exact same program.

Forced to coexist under Karasuno's veteran captain Daichi Sawamura, Hinata and Kageyama combine their contrasting strengths. Kageyama's pinpoint toss precision pairs with Hinata's extraordinary agility, explosive vertical leap, and blind trust, giving birth to their signature "freak-quick" spike. Karasuno, long dismissed across Miyagi prefecture as the "Fallen Champions" and "Flightless Crows", begins an arduous ascent back to national relevance. The squad clashes against tactical powerhouse Aoba Johsai, led by skilled playmaker Toru Oikawa, and the defensive wall of Date Tech, before challenging perennial powerhouse Shiratorizawa.

Their journey culminates at the Tokyo Spring National Tournament, featuring the long-awaited "Dumpster Battle" against historic rival Nekoma High, anchored by setter Kenma Kozume, and a quarterfinal battle against Kamomedai High. The official serialization concluded with Chapter 402, collected across 45 volumes, spanning Karasuno's high school campaign and the subsequent professional timeskip into the V.League and international circuits. The GalaxyManga catalog hosts 442 chapter entries, encompassing all canonical chapters, special one-shots, and side material.
