Set seventy years prior to the catastrophic breach of Wall Maria, the narrative explores an era when humanity lived in terror of Titans without the technological means to kill them. When a cult breaches the gates of the Shiganshina District to welcome a colossal monstrosity, the creature devours numerous citizens before regurgitating their remains. Rescuers discover a newborn infant crying inside the gruesome mass. Labeled the "Titan's son," the child, named Kuklo, is treated as an ominous demon rather than a victim. Imprisoned in a cage and sold as a sideshow oddity to the wealthy Inocencio family, Kuklo suffers relentless physical abuse from the heir, Xavi Inocencio.

Kuklo's life shifts when Xavi's compassionate sister, Sharle Inocencio, decides to teach him speech, literacy, and basic human dignity. After realizing Kuklo is purely human, Sharle aids his escape from the estate. Driven by a desperate need to understand his cursed origins, Kuklo ventures into the deadly wilderness beyond the Walls, crossing paths with the Survey Corps and craftsman Angel Aaltonen's experimental Workshop. Together with weaponsmith Xenophon Harkimo, they test the volatile, steam-powered prototypes of what will eventually become the Vertical Maneuvering Equipment (Omni-Directional Mobility gear).

What to Expect

Expect deliberate tactical tension, steampunk military engineering, and visceral dark fantasy survival. Unlike the high-flying aerial combat of the flagship series, early battles here feature grounded soldiers attempting to slow Titans down using crude cannons, nets, and brittle swords. The narrative highlights the trial-and-error invention of the Vertical Maneuvering Equipment, mechanical testing failures, internal political corruption among the Military Police, and brutal underground cage fights.

Who Will Enjoy This

Best suited to readers seeking grounded military sci-fi, survival horror, and prequel world-building that clarifies the technology of the main franchise. Readers who appreciate gritty survival stories such as Claymore, Berserk, and Vinland Saga will find Kuklo's resilience deeply compelling.
